On October 29, 2025, NAVER CEO Choi Soo-yeon attended the APEC CEO Summit held at the Gyeongju Arts Center in North Gyeongsang Province, delivering a keynote address about the AI ecosystem created by NAVER and the company’s experience in building a full-stack AI ecosystem, including data centers. Below are some excerpts from her address.

Being a company that started as a search engine, one of the key values we uphold is “diversity.” We became one of the few companies in the world that successfully defended our search engine market while taking leadership in technology, all because of our strong belief in fostering a digital ecosystem that embraces diversity. Our endeavors continue even today, as AI changes the essence of search, content platforms, and user experience.

NAVER’s AI is a tool that connects everything in the digital ecosystem more seamlessly. It also serves as a tool that unlocks the potential of users, creators, and sellers, while helping them grow. To allow for such seamless connection with AI, we have long made proactive investments, fostering a full-stack AI ecosystem that spans everything related to AI, such as models and services, along with infrastructure including data centers.

NAVER will continue to unlock new opportunities in AI. Just like how our search began with a simple belief that everyone should have access to knowledge even without an encyclopedia, the benefits of AI technology must be equally shared by all.

AI data centers serve as the core infrastructure for connecting the digital ecosystem, and building a more inclusive and sustainable AI – and that is why the foundation of AI that creates a better future for everyone lies in AI data centers. Not far from here stands Haeinsa’s Janggyeonggak, the inspiration behind NAVER’s data center, “GAK.” Janggyeonggak embodies the spirit of preserving the records of the past and the present for future generations. Carrying on that spirit, we aim to ensure that each nation’s unique culture and diversity can also be part of the AI ecosystem to be passed on to the future. Together with APEC economies, we will build a partnership — one that respects each nation’s unique culture and diversity while co-creating global standards.
