On February 11, NAVER CEO Choi Soo-yeon attended the “AI Action Summit” held in Paris, France. At the event joined by some 300 heads of state, government delegations, academics, and AI industry leaders, CEO Choi was invited to a panel of entrepreneurial representatives along with Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai. Following presentations by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, and International Energy Agency Executive Director Dr. Faith Birol, CEO Choi gave a presentation on “NAVER’s efforts to enhance diversity in the digital ecosystem using AI, and our vision for creators, users, and sellers.” Below is a summary of key points from her talk.
For NAVER, “diversity” is one of our most important values. The essence of search is finding the optimal result from large volumes of information and content. And that’s why diversity is closely linked with NAVER itself.
This diversity is enabled through a “digital ecosystem” that connects unique creators, sellers, and users. In NAVER’s digital ecosystem, creators and sellers promote their content, and users can find the information they want while sharing information and communicating with each other. Questions and answers to numerous information, posts that deliver daily tips, and unique products from sellers – NAVER is applying AI to these contents and information integrated with our various services to unlock new possibilities.
NAVER’s AI will be a tool that connects users, creators, and sellers in a more refined way. Using AI, NAVER Search will be able to identify more information comprehensively, allowing it to provide optimized search results for users. This will enable users to discover more content and products that fit their intent and preferences.
AI in commerce will understand users’ underlying intent and context to recommend products and benefits that users want one step ahead of them. NAVER will also enable sellers to run their business with AI-powered marketing, customer service, and product display solutions so that they can focus more on developing products that their customers want.
On NAVER WEBTOON, “AI Curator” identifies users’ preferences to recommend titles, which ensures that users discover more genres and stories. In addition, creators can use the AI painter tool, which helps them focus on coming up with more creative stories or detailed sketches to deliver more high-quality creations.
NAVER owns key fundamental AI technologies and large-scale services used by millions of users. “On-Service AI” will combine such extensive experience, know-how, and large-scale services with our own AI technologies to unlock better possibilities for all in the digital ecosystem.
