CEO Choi Soo-yeon’s opening keynote for TEAM NAVER CONFERENCE DAN 24 <NEXT, N: Beyond Search – The Next Evolution of NAVER>

NAVER CEO Choi Soo-yeon gave her opening keynote for TEAM NAVER CONFERENCE DAN 24 on November 11, 2004, presenting NAVER’s key business strategies and changes in technology to announce NAVER’s new path for utilizing AI. TEAM NAVER CONFERENCE DAN 24 is an event for NAVER to showcase the road ahead for TEAM NAVER, the company’s vision for technology, and new services to its partners and users. “DAN” stands for “a stage where NAVER shares the role and vision of the platform we are contemplating on.”

Last year, NAVER became the first company in Korea to present our product lineup for TEAM NAVER’s generative AI, promising that the company will be providing a wide range of customized tools for users enabled by AI. Since then, we have delivered on our promise by implementing our generative AI product lineup one by one and internalizing different technologies to provide AI-enabled tools for users and creators, as well as customized business support solutions for SMEs, advertisers, and partners. What’s more, we have fostered an AI ecosystem that encompasses various domains by being equipped with a wide range of product lineups in the B2B sector, where a high level of security and technological capabilities are required.

As NAVER is the company that best understands and utilizes AI in Korea, we will continue to use AI to further advance and add value to our platform’s competitiveness. And today, I’d like to give you a bit more insight into how NAVER will be utilizing AI.

From now on, NAVER’s inclusive AI philosophy will become the basis on which we incorporate AI into all NAVER services, and this will be referred to as “On-Service AI.” On-Service AI is focused on delivering a better user experience and bringing about innovation that users can feel in their day-to-day activities. Blurring the boundaries of online and offline worlds and providing a service that is easier and more intuitive will enable users to easily find the information they need, and widen the horizon of possibilities for the better.

First, NAVER Search will be enhanced using our LLM* technology to deliver information more quickly and to advance further a new search experience that combines a personalized feed and recommendation. The feed and recommendation system that reflects users’ interests and preferences will also be connected with NAVER’s unrivaled content, which means users can quickly find the information they are looking for while being open to opportunities for new discoveries.

*LLM : Large Language Model, an AI model that is trained on massive volumes of text data to understand and generate language

Ads will create a virtuous cycle by using AI to develop a comprehensive ad platform. This will maximize interaction between advertisers and users, and allow for a more efficient ad delivery. Personalized targeting using data analysis will provide an optimized ads solution for advertisers while presenting to users a valuable ad experience with useful information that is closely connected to their daily lives.

NAVER Place, the largest platform for getting local information in Korea, will provide a revolutionary experience by utilizing spatial AI. The innovative, comprehensive platform that connects the online and offline worlds using cutting-edge spatial intelligence will provide a more immersive experience to users and encourage interactions in many online and offline spaces. We’re also seeking opportunities for global expansion to Japan, Europe, and the Middle East based on our spatial intelligence technology and platform.

NAVER Shopping has developed a personalized shopping platform driven by AI, launching our new shopping service “NAVER Plus Store” at the end of October. Users can enjoy a shopping experience full of their interests, as an AI-enabled recommendation system analyzes users’ interests and purchase history. In the first half of next year, we will be presenting a hyper-personalized AI shopping app. NAVER will continue our endeavors for users to get an elevated joy from shopping using AI technologies.

I take pride in that NAVER is perhaps the only company in the world with a competitive edge in all vertical services, including search, ads, place, shopping, and cloud.

NAVER will bring innovations in our daily lives through On-Service AI, maximize business performance, and blur the boundaries of various experiences in our day-to-day activities to create a hyper-personalized user experience. Furthermore, NAVER will continue to foster our own AI ecosystem that delivers meaningful values to users and society.

Now, NAVER will take a step further from a search engine that connects users to information – we aim to evolve into an exploration service that widens possibilities for users through discovery. Moving forward, it will not be us, but the users who will take the lead in exploring on NAVER. Numerous interests, preferences, content, and information will be the basis on which connections are made and synergistic effects are created between user to user, service to service, and content to technology. NAVER will be embarking on a journey to expand and venture into infinite possibilities of discovery ●
