During Code Day, we share the values accumulated by our members at NAVER and align our perspectives

When our interests align, and we feel comfortable in each other's company, we often say that the “Codes are aligned.” At NAVER, there is a day when members come together to “Align the code.” This day is called Code Day. You may ask, “Why do we align codes with colleagues this way?”
A time to establish the fundamentals and look in the same direction
With the growth of NAVER, not only has the business domain diversified, but also the age groups within the company's organization. With various thoughts and perspectives emerging as a result, aligning them with the overall direction of the company has become crucial. NAVER's members come together on Code Day to explore the fundamentals of NAVER, look towards the future together, adapt to changes, and lead the business.
Code Day is when members of all NAVER subsidiaries come together to discuss the company's philosophy, strategies, and direction. Groups with similar backgrounds, such as new employees and leaders, gather to share opinions on the given agenda and engage in in-depth conversations with the top executives, focusing on key issues facing the company. It is an opportunity for members to question whether the path we are currently taking aligns with NAVER’s core fundamentals, both in terms of business and philosophy, and to address any uncertainties.
Codes are being aligned through transparent conversations
Initiating comfortable conversations with newly met colleagues is not easy. Therefore, to quickly eliminate any awkwardness and facilitate discussions without formality during Code Day, a pre-survey is conducted before the event. This survey helps to create teams of colleagues who share similar interests and concerns. Following this, each team decides on an agenda and engages in discussions based on topics that generated significant interest among the participants.
For example, in a recent Code Day for new employees, the agenda included topics such as “Why NAVER is focusing on the global market” and “The process of creating NAVER services.” Collaborating with team members, everyone researched and discussed the company's growth journey, reflecting on NAVER's philosophy and business history embedded within it. In the case of Code Day for leaders, the agenda covered topics like “The role of leaders” and “Company's areas of focus.” Leaders contemplated these agenda items deeply and engaged in discussions with team members who shared similar concerns.
Code Day is a time for open and honest discussions. Participants have the opportunity to ask questions and receive responses from top executives or key leaders who can provide the most accurate and detailed explanations about the company's philosophy, values, and major issues. Participants can also ask questions or even propose new ideas for the company’s direction and strategies. Without a scripted agenda, transparent and sincere conversations take place. When opinions differ, there is ample time to persuade and understand each other, fostering alignment with colleagues and collectively moving towards a shared goal.
A time to create a seismic design to help anchor the center of my work
Leaders who have just joined the company and are now getting to know NAVER face big and small challenges in an unfamiliar situation where they need to develop performance with team members and new employees. They may feel disoriented by unexpected market trends and lose sleep over significant decisions. Just as there are no flowers that can bloom without swaying, people, too, face challenges and uncertainties in order to thrive.
The true value of Code Day comes to light in these moments. Members who have gone through Code Day engage in passionate conversations with colleagues and top executives, gaining a close and tangible understanding of the decisions NAVER made at critical crossroads, the criteria used to overcome challenges and create new value, and the goals and strategies for the future.
When someone faces uncertainty after returning to one's daily routine work post Code Day, the experiences and insights gained during this time can serve as a foundation for maintaining balance and responding effectively. Therefore, Code Day can be seen as a time for Team NAVER to create a “Seismic design.”
Code Day, which takes place approximately five times a year, will continue into the future. The goal is to foster continuous discussions during Code Day, allowing diverse thoughts to harmonize and providing the ability to maintain a strong center despite any challenges that may arise ●
