Started as a search service, NAVER now encompasses various technologies and services—from community, finance, and to content. As the size of our ship gets bigger, more sailors join, and the ocean we can navigate becomes greater, we face new opportunities. However, as soon as we lose the wheel, there is also a chance that we encounter a huge risk. That is why NAVER has been conducting <Companion Day> starting from 2019, where all members and the management gather together to talk about the company’s direction.
To have an aligned vision with colleagues
“Companion,” meaning a colleague whom you work with, came from the word “company,” which is composed of the terms com, meaning “together,” and pan, which means bread in Latin. In other words, a company is a place where we share our bread together, and colleagues—whom we share the bread with—are the ones we share what we gained together through cooperation.
NAVER believes that in order to achieve the goal we are aiming for, colleagues whom we work with should communicate transparently, build trust, and share the same vision. This is why we organized <Companion Day> to allow all members to get together and discuss the company’s strategies and direction freely and honestly.
Open and honest conversation without scripts
The most important basis of <Companion Day> is transparency. The key is to straightforwardly share key agendas related to the company’s direction, such as performance, change, and goals, with all the members who are achieving growth together.
After sharing agendas, members ask questions or share their opinions in real-time on-site, and the management gives candid answers accordingly. Sometimes, there are questions or suggestions that require decision-making or coordination. In such cases, a relevant department examines it, pulls responses together, and shares them with all members of the company later. Since every member listens to each other attentively and shares ideas freely, <Companion Day> garners much attention from members, as many as 50 questions and answers are exchanged only in one hour.
The driving force to create steadfast TEAM NAVER against fierce competition
After Choi Soo-yeon took office as CEO in 2022, <Companion Day> was conducted seven times in a year. Our members were able to meet together more often to unite ourselves and strengthen the core of TEAM NAVER by openly sharing and reviewing past performance and future strategies. Through <Companion Day>, we experienced first-hand that we can make further headway toward an aligned direction as long as all of us communicate openly, and make sure we are on the same page. Going forward, <Companion Day> will be the driving force for TEAM NAVER to navigate through the intense competition of the global market ●
