NAVER CFO Kim Nam-sun CNBC Interview <NAVER’s Q1 Earnings, Global Expansion, Impact of AI>

In May 2023, NAVER CFO Kim Nam-sun had an interview with an American business news channel CNBC, sharing the company’s 2023 first-quarter earnings, as well as his thoughts about domestic and overseas business strategies related to Poshmark and generative AI.
Q. NAVER garnered much attention from both domestic and overseas markets with its acquisition of Poshmark. What changes do you expect from such global expansion?
There were concerns at first. Nevertheless, we continued to focus on Poshmark’s competitiveness and opportunities in the second-hand market itself. Since Poshmark already accounts for a quarter of our commerce revenue, I am confident that it will emerge as one of our key commerce strategies. Furthermore, NAVER will expand its global footprint, not to merely win the global title, but to create huge synergy and increase returns based on our successful experience in the US and Japan.
Q. In terms of AI technology, which has recently become a buzzword, how is it applied in each of NAVER’s services, and what changes will this bring about?
Most companies struggle to monetize AI technology, and an AI chatbot is a potential threat to the search ad market. But for us, it is a huge opportunity to advance each of our businesses and services, from search to shopping, fintech, and webtoon. From the user perspective, the search experience will be enhanced further with AI-based shopping and travel recommendations ●
