NAVER CEO Choi Soo-yeon appointed to the Board of the United Nations Global Compact in Recognition of Leadership in Global AI Governance
On September 18, 2025, NAVER CEO Choi Soo-yeon has been officially appointed as a new board member of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC).
The UN Global Compact is the world’s largest voluntary corporate citizenship initiative, with more than 25,000 companies and organizations across 167 countries. It presents ten principles in the four key areas of human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption, supporting companies in practicing responsible management for sustainable growth.
Sanda Ojiambo, CEO & Executive Director of the UN Global Compact, explained the background of the appointment, noting that “CEO Choi Soo-yeon is a leader who presents global growth strategies based on the social responsibility and sustainability principles of digital enterprises.” Ojiambo added, “CEO Choi’s deep expertise and global leadership will be instrumental in advancing UNGC’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in close collaboration with businesses.”
Last year, CEO Choi announced the NAVER Impact initiative, proposing a sustainable growth model in partnership with local communities, SMEs, and startups. In February this year, CEO Choi participated in the AI Action Summit held in Paris, where she discussed the future of AI and diversity in the digital ecosystem alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and other global leaders. In June this year, NAVER also launched NAVER Ventures in Silicon Valley to discover promising global startups and foster a collaborative ecosystem.
Going forward, CEO Choi will serve a three-year term as a UNGC board member, actively engaging in international discussions on building trustworthy and safe AI, while driving NAVER’s vision of sustainable growth by creating meaningful ecosystem with communities, startups, and SMEs.
