NAVER Pay Expands to Include WeChat Pay for QR Payments Across Mainland China

NAVER Pay QR payments are now available across mainland China, supporting WeChat Pay (Weixin Pay).
NAVER Pay (CEO Park Sang-jin) announced last December 24 that it would become the first Korean simple payment service provider supporting the WeChat Pay QR payment in China.
NAVER Pay began integrating UnionPay and Alipay+ QR payment services in China last September. With the addition of WeChat Pay, its services have effectively become available to most QR payment locations across mainland China. NAVER Pay is now the only Korean simple payment service provider that supports QR payment services for all three major Chinese simple payment companies. Through the NAVER Pay app, users can conveniently make payments and earn benefits, such as reward points, without needing to install or register on a separate app.
WeChat Pay operates on a Merchant Presented Mode (MPM) payment system, where users scan a QR code provided by the store with their smartphone camera. Users can simply press the QR payment button at the bottom center of the NAVER Pay app, scan the WeChat Pay QR code, input the payment amount, and press “pay” to deduct the amount from the user’s NAVER Pay points or money balance. Furthermore, users can check the estimated payment amount in Korean won (KRW) before confirming the transaction. If the payment amount exceeds the available balance, it will be automatically topped up in increments of KRW 10,000 from the account linked to NAVER Pay before the payment is processed.
This integration with WeChat Pay builds on the existing partnership between NAVER Pay and UnionPay, which began in September 2023. Currently, UnionPay supports WeChat Pay integration with various payment service providers, including NAVER Pay, for use within China. WeChat Pay QR payment users are eligible for the ongoing “10% Instant Discount Without Conditions” promotion conducted by NAVER Pay and UnionPay until March 2025. Also, the Point Draw and Stamp benefits are provided when using QR payments with NAVER Pay points or money.
