At the “2024 Busan Mobility Show,” which began on June 28, Renault Korea unveiled its new “Grand Koleos,” equipped with the Whale browser for vehicles.
NAVER CLOUD (CEO Kim Yu-won) developed a vehicle-optimized browser to be installed in Renault Korea’s D-segment SUV Grand Koleos. This development follows a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in February with Renault Korea and Dream Ace for collaboration on building a web platform for vehicles.
In the Renault Korea Grand Koleos, the Whale vehicle browser facilitates access to a range of web-based services, including online videos, music streaming, and social media. It is tailored specifically for the automotive environment, ensuring seamless integration between the vehicle’s hardware system and web services. In addition, the browser features an intuitive user interface that simplifies web service accessibility by eliminating the ‘browser tabs’ function.
The Whale vehicle browser stands out for its extensive compatibility, seamlessly delivering diverse infotainment services without being constrained by the vehicle’s hardware or operating system (OS). This contrasts with traditional infotainment systems that necessitate specific app development and frequent updates tailored to each OS. By facilitating the straightforward development and deployment of web apps that comply with web standards, the Whale vehicle browser significantly expands service scalability. NAVER CLOUD and Renault Korea are committed to enhancing their partnership to broaden the array of services available to users.
Kim Hyo, executive director at NAVER CLOUD, commented, “The Whale browser for vehicles will keep advancing its technology to guarantee consistent connectivity with vehicles, offering users a cutting-edge mobility experience. Whale is committed to further harnessing the scalability of web technology to enhance the web platform ecosystem in various domains, from educational technology to infotainment.”
