NAVER Corporation (CEO Choi Soo-yeon) announced on January 11 the release of the ▲NAVER Privacy White Paper, capturing this year’s in-depth research on privacy issues, and the ▲NAVER Personal Information Protection Report, which details the company’s efforts in safeguarding personal information.
Contained within the 2023 NAVER Privacy White Paper are studies on ▶the interpretation, optimal operation, and enhancement strategies for automated decision-making rules in the Personal Information Protection Act (Professor Lee Sang-yong, Konkuk University), and ▶various challenges in the third-party sharing of personal information (Attorney Kang Tae-uk, Bae, Kim & Lee LLC). Since 2015, NAVER has been consistently publishing an annual Privacy White Paper that incorporates scholarly and research-based insights in the realm of personal information protection and privacy.
NAVER is set to conduct a seminar on February 1 to delve into the research themes from this white paper. The seminar will particularly address the newly added “Right of Data Subjects in Automated Decision-Making” in the Personal Information Protection Act and the “Comparative Study of Third-Party Provision Regulations of Personal Information and Related Systems,” which are proving complex for practitioners in the field of privacy.
NAVER also released the 2023 NAVER Personal Information Protection Report, which revealed its principal activities in personal information and privacy protection over the past year. This report highlights NAVER’s numerous endeavors, including evaluations of the impact merged by the introduction of generative AI and a series of efforts to improve privacy transparency, concerning the processing of children’s and teenagers’ personal information and the privacy aspects of mobile apps. NAVER has released the “Personal Information Protection Report” covering major issues in personal information protection and the company’s efforts toward protection since 2012.
Lee David, NAVER’s Data Protection & Privacy Executive Officer (CPO/DPO/CISO) remarked, “With the comprehensive amendment of the Personal Information Protection Act and the introduction of new user rights and frameworks, our commitment to protecting personal data has notably increased. We intend to incorporate the insights from the white paper into our services and persist in sharing NAVER’s accumulated expertise and information in data protection with our partners.”
