You can now conveniently make payments with NAVER Pay money and points in China and Japan.
NAVER Pay announced that it had launched a QR on-site payment service through the NAVER Pay app at offline UnionPay merchants throughout China and Japan.
This service is provided through the partnership between NAVER Pay and BC Card for QR on-site payments. NAVER Pay is the first simple payment service in Korea to start payment integration with UnionPay.
Users can easily make payments using the points accumulated through NAVER Pay or directly deposited NAVER Pay money without the need for currency exchange. If the amount available is less than the payment amount, it will automatically be deposited in increments of KRW 10,000 via the linked account.
To use this service, select the “NPay” logo on QR payment tab within the NAVER Pay app and switch the setting to “UnionPay Mainland China / Outside Mainland China.” Payments are supported through both the Customer-Presented Mode (CPM), where the QR generated in the app is scanned at the store, and the Merchant-Presented Mode (MPM), where the QR displayed at the store is scanned using the NAVER Pay app camera. This overseas QR on-site payment service will also be available on the NAVER app in September.
Using these methods, users can make payments at all UnionPay QR merchants in China, including airports, shopping facilities (convenience stores, supermarkets, drugstores), franchises, and local markets. In Japan, this service is available at about 610,000 merchants, including major shopping centers, franchise restaurants, and cafés. You can find more information on available merchants on the NAVER Pay’s “Usage Location” page.
To enhance usability, all payment details can be checked on the “NAVER Pay Payment Details” page immediately after payment; notifications are also provided through NAVER TalkTalk notifications and NAVER emails.
A NAVER Pay representative said, “We have focused on introducing services that allow NAVER Pay users to conveniently use points and money even abroad, and we are preparing to offer unique benefits for overseas payments through NAVER Pay. We also have plans to expand to other countries within the year through the BC Card-UnionPay global payment network.”
