NAVER Corporation (CEO Choi Soo-yeon) and Playlist (CEO Park Tae-won) announced that they will introduce Korea’s first monthly chart-based K-pop show, “NPOP,” on August 2. Ahead of NPOP’s regular broadcast starting on September 6, a month-long preview dubbed “NPOP PREVIEW” will be broadcasted throughout August. The first artist to come on the show will be NewJeans, and NPOP PREVIEW will feature the performance stage of NewJeans’s latest songs and other entertainment content.

NPOP, a music broadcast show created by both artists and fans, will offer a unique entertainment experience by incorporating NAVER’s competitive platform capabilities and Playlist’s strong content production skills. The program consists of “STAGE N,” centered on performance, and “STAY N,” a communicative reality content. In STAGE N, artists present new song stages such as comeback specials and live performances, and in STAY N, they carry out various missions with fans and communicate in real-time through chat.
NPOP is available for weekly viewing on the NAVER app, PC, and NOW. Except for the month’s final week, prerecorded VOD content is broadcasted every Wednesday at 8 p.m., featuring each artist for approximately 25 minutes. On the last Monday of the month, a live broadcast with 12 teams of artists will air for 90 minutes. To heighten the experience of live presence and encourage closer communication between artists and fans, there will also be opportunities to watch the STAGE N performances in real life. The “NPOP Chart of the Month” will also be announced on the live broadcast. Unlike existing music shows based on weekly charts, NPOP is unique because it compiles charts monthly and selects the “NPOP Artist of the Month." The Artist of the Month is chosen by combining the “Music Scores,” reflected in physical and digital sales, early and live votes, and “NAVER Scores,” based on page views, searches, etc.
Moreover, NAVER has applied a “Multi Live” function based on its native video technology to allow users to enjoy NPOP according to their needs. Multi Live broadcasts multiple individual broadcasts within one show simultaneously, allowing users to choose and watch the broadcast they want. In the NPOP’s live broadcast for the final week, STAGE N and STAY N are broadcast live with the Multi Live function, allowing fans to switch screens in real-time and choose the broadcast they want to see, for example, the performance stage or the waiting room behind the scenes.
NPOP, with its various attractions, is expected to boost NAVER’s video ecosystem further. The artists’ performance stages, reality shows, and behind-the-scenes videos to be unveiled in NPOP will also be provided in short-form videos. Users can access the NPOP content anytime, anywhere, through the NAVER platform.
NAVER’s CEO Choi Soo-yeon said, “We expect that users and artists will be able to communicate in real time and create content together through the NAVER platform, experiencing a one-of-a-kind music show. After the launch, we plan to continuously listen to the users’ voices, plan and produce various NPOP contents with Playlist, and provide support with enriched content experience on NAVER.”
Playlist’s CEO, Park Tae-won, said, “In line with the global rise of K-pop, we have launched an interactive show that is brought to life through communication with K-pop fans. We will showcase never-before-seen forms of content by combining NAVER’s technological expertise and Playlist’s competitive production skills to connect artists and fans more closely under the keywords of music and communication.” <END>
