NAVER Cloud (CEO Kim Yoo-won) became the first cloud service provider (CSP) in Korea to be granted the APEC Cross Border Privacy Rules (CBPR) certification, reinforcing its global business competitiveness.
The CBPR is a global certification system that evaluates and certifies companies’ privacy protection systems in support of the free and safe transfer of personal information among APEC member countries. Based on the nine principles in the APEC Privacy Framework, the CBPR certification comprehensively evaluates aspects such as the establishment of a personal information management system, collection of personal information, use/provision/consignment of personal information, rights of information subjects, integrity, and protection measures. A total of 9 countries, including Korea, the United States, Japan, and Singapore, are participating in the system, and about 40 companies, including NAVER, Apple, Cisco, IBM, HP, and Yahoo Japan, have obtained the certification.
By obtaining the CBPR certification for its cloud services, NAVER Cloud has been externally recognized as having established and is effectively operating a global-level personal information protection system.
NAVER Cloud, which has the largest number of overseas regions among APEC member countries in Korea, was verified for its secure transfer and processing capabilities of personal information with the CBPR certification, establishing a solid foundation for expanding its global business.
In particular, the laws of Japan and Singapore acknowledge the protection level of CBPR-certified companies and allow the free transfer of personal information abroad, which enables more efficient business operations when partnering with companies in these countries.
Head of Cloud Security and CPO at NAVER Cloud, Choi Won-Hyuk, said, “Following NAVER, NAVER Cloud became the second company in Korea to be certified internationally for its advanced personal information protection system. NAVER Cloud will continue to strengthen the excellence of NAVER Cloud’s security and provide reliable services.”
