NAVER Corporation (CEO Choi Soo-yeon) enhances its Local Search experience by integrating keyword reviews with its advanced search technology. The accumulated keyword, text, and photo information from keyword reviews are incorporated into NAVER’s search results. By incorporating the unique features of businesses that have been gathered through reviews, search results are able to provide users with more precise and specific local information that aligns with their search objectives.
Based on the “keyword review” data accumulated for the past year and four months, Local Search reflects distinctive features of businesses in its search results.
NAVER introduced keyword review filters in its search results. In addition to the existing “business information” and “restaurant information by menu” filters, users can now collect information about businesses based on their characteristics, such as “Suitable for special occasions” or “Great for photos.” Since NAVER launched the keyword review system in July of last year to reflect businesses’ actual characteristics and personalities, the data accumulated over the past year and four months have proven useful in the search realm. The keyword review filters will be applied to restaurants first, with plans to expand to other industries starting next year.

Over 400 million text and photo reviews have been integrated into the search results, providing users with more precise information relevant to their search goals. For example, if a user searches for “Hannam-dong steak,” they will be presented with photos and reviews of steakhouses in the NAVER Place section as well because they are likely searching for local information on steaks. Similarly, keywords such as “Jeju ocean view café” or “Busan family gathering restaurant” will show results that cater to the user’s search intent, offering them a more convenient search experience.
Native search technologies, such as “AI Snippet” and accumulated review content, create synergy
This update uses NAVER’s accumulated review content and the sophisticated search technologies it advanced. AI Snippet technology was used throughout the process to identify reviews that align with the user’s search intent. Meanwhile, context clustering was used to compare and match text and image information to show users relevant images that match keywords related to menus and ambiance, while AirSPACE was used in the final process of creating recommendations for users.

As NAVER accelerates its efforts to revitalize and enrich its reviews on various areas and food, the Local Search results will continue to be refined further. NAVER attempted to enhance the diversity of reviews by introducing the “MY Place review mission program” in November, which awards points to users who complete designated missions. NAVER also plans to introduce missions that reflect local trends subject to change based on seasons.
“NAVER’s improvement of its review system, such as keyword reviews, was combined with its competitive search technologies to result in a service where SMEs can connect with users based on their unique characteristics,” said Lee Se-hoon, leader of NAVER Place Search. “NAVER’s reviews will continue to provide users with dynamic local news and relevant information that meets their needs.”
