With the MOU, NAVER will obtain renewable energy generated from facilities owned by K-Water through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for its offices and Internet data centers (IDCs) for the RE100 initiative. NAVER signed a third-party PPA with Enlighten and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) on December 1 to expand the use of renewable energy in the operation of NAVER 1784.
Both companies also agreed to cooperate in various businesses, including equity investments in K-Water’s large-scale renewable energy projects, such as floating solar panels. Moreover, they will continue to work together in situation-specific AI and big data utilization, such as water information, disasters, and safety.
K-Water Vice President Jeong Gyeong-yoon said, “K-Water plans to actively support companies in Korea with their RE100 initiatives by providing eco-friendly renewable energy. We will continue to expand cooperation with various organizations to promote the use of renewable energy to fight the climate crisis and provide support with Korea’s efforts toward achieving carbon neutrality.”
Meanwhile, NAVER’s President of Communications & Social Responsibility Chae Seon-ju said, “Starting with cooperation with K-Water, which owns most renewable energy facilities in Korea, NAVER will collaborate with various partners and exert efforts to become a global leader in eco-friendly and ESG management.”
