NAVER LABS and NAVER Cloud together announced a roadmap to commercialize futuristic building solution by 2023 at its NAVER Meet Up event today. The future building solution is being developed through the convergence of Team NAVER’s advanced technologies including NAVER LABS’ multi-robot intelligence system, ARC, and NAVER Cloud’s 5G cloud service.
NAVER’s second headquarters, 1784, and second data center, GAK Sejong (scheduled to open in 2023), are immense technological test beds that converge Team NAVER’s cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), cloud, 5G, digital twins, robotics and autonomous driving.
Inside 1784, experiments with various technologies such as a self-navigating robot Rookie, face recognition technology CLOVA FaceSign and AI-powered voice recording service to organize and share meeting minutes in CLOVA Note are taking place every day. What’s more, NAVER WORKS is employed to control various functions within the building such as temperature, lighting, ventilation and meal ordering, enhancing the convenience of all employees of 1784. At GAK Sejong, testing of new technologies such as robots and autonomous shuttle buses to support server administrators are currently taking place.
ARC (AI, Robot, Cloud) and 5G cloud represent the core technologies converging at NAVER’s 1784 and GAK Sejong facilities. NAVER expects commercialization of these technologies to one day allow other buildings to be transformed into futuristic spaces. With the ability to continuously update NAVER’s solution over-the-air (OTA), existing buildings can evolve into smart buildings like 1784.
Team NAVER’s software capability to play a key role in establishing futuristic spaces

[Seok Sangok, NAVER LABS CEO]
“The future of building space will be more than just a structure, it will involve software capable of creating new experiences at the center,” said Seok Sangok, NAVER LABS CEO. “TEAM NAVER was the first to create this futuristic building like 1784 and we are certain that many futuristic spaces to be made will come from NAVER’s technology.”
With this strategy in mind, NAVER LABS and NAVER Cloud plan to commercialize ARC Eye and ARC Brain, two core technologies employed in 1784 and futuristic spaces, by 2023. Through NAVER Cloud, customers will be able to implement TEAM NAVER’s technology in various options according to their spatial needs.
NAVER’s ARC Eye technology takes on the role of a human’s eye to accurately track the route and position of a robot inside a structure where GPS does not reach. ARC Brain, correspondingly, plays the role of the brain to collectively plan and execute all the movements, positioning and tasks of the robots.
“We envision ARC as a gateway to the popularization of robots,” said Seok. “Toward this end, ARC is designed to efficiently and seamlessly connect with large-scale spaces and service infrastructures with many different robotic systems.”
NAVER Cloud’s ‘5G Cloud’ to innovate with various partners

[Park Won-ki, NAVER Cloud CEO]
According to NAVER Cloud CEO Park Won-ki, many NAVER technologies including NAVER WORKS, CLOVA AI and data platform are already available through NAVER Cloud. Park affirmed that technologies including brainless robot, digital twins and visual localization (VL) developed by NAVER LABS are part of the commercialization strategy.
With many of NAVER’s partners seeking end-to-end cloud solutions on 5G networks, NAVER is focused on developing innovative services in fields such as medical care, airports and logistics to accelerate digital transformation.
According to Park, NAVER LABS and NAVER Cloud are committed to a common vision to accelerate customer’s digital transformation by leveraging NAVER’s advanced technologies and robust data to create various services through 5G and the cloud. “Our 5G cloud technology allows ultra-low latency communication between devices, real-time analysis and processing along with real-time service application,” he said. “We were confident that our technology would take on a whole new level of versatility on a network and that led to our strategy to become the first private 5G network operator.”
