NAVER D2 Startup Factory (D2SF) announced new investments in two metaverse technology startups in Korea.
The two startups that will receive funding are Virtual Flow, which is currently developing an easy and efficient solution for high-quality 3D content creation, and Pixelity Games, whose technology enables real-time interactions between multiple users in a VR environment.

Virtual Flow is currently developing an Unreal Engine-based solution that helps users easily create first-rate 3D content without any prior experience or specific skill set. Advanced 3D engine Unreal enables content creation of the highest quality, so it is often used to create movies, TV shows and games, but requires high-level development capabilities. Virtual Flow has significantly enhanced the usability and accessibility of Unreal Engine and is working to create a solution that does not require coding or scripting. The beta version, which will launch in early 2022, will help content businesses with captivating IPs and artistic resources to create top-shelf virtual content effortlessly and expertly. Virtual Flow’s first MVP (minimum viable product) solution has been named Epic Games’ MegaGrants* — Korea’s first.
*MegaGrants is a program started by global game developer Epic Games to financially support high-potential projects built in and around Unreal Engine and in the field of 3D graphics.
Pixelity Games introduced a set of technologies that enable real-time interactions between multiple users in a VR setting. Specifically, these technologies include multi-play VR using a wireless network environment and simultaneous 3D modeling synchronization that optimizes mutual interaction by recognizing the coordinates of multiple users’ controllers. The company has already completed rounds of tests of its multi-connected VR content honed for 4G, 5G and Wi-Fi settings in Korea, United States, China and Germany. Many of its in-house developed multi-play VR games, including Rise of the Fallen, are currently in service, and the new game The Patcher will begin open beta testing in the near future. Pixelity Games is also expanding the area of application for its technology, working with different players in the entertainment industry.
“While there has been a growing interest in the virtual content market with the rise of the metaverse, the popularization of the industry is still facing many hurdles in terms of content creation and utilization,” said Yang Sang-hwan, leader of NAVER D2SF. “The two startups receiving funding offer very rare but desirable technologies like engine programming and multi-connection, and will provide better accessibility to exclusive virtual content creation, and open new horizons in user experience.”
NAVER D2SF has invested in 72 tech startups since its establishment in 2015. It is carrying out various activities to create opportunities for NAVER and startups to interact and grow together.
