NAVER announced today at its 23rd annual shareholders meeting that it has appointed Ms. Choi Soo-yeon as its new CEO, following the Board of Directors meeting held at the company’s headquarters in Bundang, Seongnam.
With the appointment of CEO Choi, 41, NAVER’s leadership will pivot from internet pioneers to a generation with life-long internet experience. Under CEO Choi, NAVER will focus its management power to transform its business into a global top-tier internet company.

“With the unwavering support of our shareholders over the past 20 years, NAVER has grown into a very unique internet company through its advanced technology leadership and diverse business portfolio, including search, e-commerce, content, fintech, cloud, artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics,” Choi told shareholders at the annual meeting. “We will not only establish a system to speed up the growth of our global businesses in various areas, but also continue to experiment with convergence between businesses to create new growth engines that will repay shareholders with proper market valuation.”
Choi also showed her confidence in NAVER’s competitiveness and the competence of its employees while revealing her ambitions as the company’s new CEO. “I am aware that my appointment as the new CEO comes from the shareholders’ tremendous trust in NAVER’s businesses and its employees, and I believe this is a call from our shareholders for NAVER to put ourselves out there and take on new challenges. Restoring NAVER’s corporate culture, which is based on trust and autonomy, will be the first task for NAVER to accomplish to take a leap forward,” said Choi.
“We are grateful that our senior executives, who are internet pioneers, have laid the foundation for NAVER’s global expansion, which includes various business portfolios, global partnerships and technological leadership,” said Choi. “NAVER will become an incubator for new successful businesses that will progress go beyond LINE, WEBTOON and ZEPETO created by senior executives and employees, and we will practice governance with global sensibilities and expertise while continuing to innovate its technology.”
Meanwhile, eight agenda items tabled during the 23rd annual shareholder meeting were approved, including 2021 financial statements (as well as the statement of appropriation of retained earnings), the appointments of company directors Choi Soo-yeon and Chae Sun-ju, the reappointment of external director Jung Do-jin, the appointment of external director Roh Hyeok-joon, the reappointment of audit committee member Jung Do-jin, the appointment of audit committee member Roh Hyeok-joon, and the limit for director remuneration.
