Even with complex and lengthy conversational queries, the AI summarizes and delivers the desired results, offering an option to connect to tailored services.
On November 30, NAVER Corporation (CEO Choi Soo-yeon) announced the implementation of the generative AI search service “CUE:” in NAVER’s integrated search.
CUE: is NAVER’s generative AI-powered search service, piloted since September. It conveniently links to services like shopping and local information and provides reliable, up-to-date answers from NAVER’s knowledge base. With its “human-like searching” approach, it understands the intent and context of queries, delivering information in one go that typically requires multiple searches.
The goal of CUE: is to enhance NAVER’s search functionality, making it quicker, more precise, and user-friendly. Traditional search methods required users to repetitively choose keywords, review documents, and adjust search terms to find information. Now, users can obtain satisfactory search results by typing queries into the search bar conversationally, as if speaking to another person.
CUE: which applied to the integrated search is displayed flexibily depeding on the user’s query type. When users input detailed, lengthy conversational queries, they instantly see CUE: responses at the top of their search results. CUE: excels at handling queries requiring recommendations or suggestions, such as “find something for me,” “tell me about something,” or “recommend something.” It provides effective responses, especially when search terms or queries include specific locations and characteristics or are context-rich.
For instance, a query like “Find me a restaurant in Seongsu-dong for reservation and parking available for Christmas” would traditionally require checking each piece of information separately. However, with CUE: incorporated into NAVER’s search, users can quickly locate restaurants that meet their specified conditions, which are displayed at the top of the search results. This is achieved through integration with NAVER Place and Booking systems. CUE: improves convenience by streamlining searches for products, recipes, and places, directly linking to related services like shopping, grocery orders, and reservations, all without the need for further searches.
CUE: also delivers highly reliable information in searches. For a query like “Tell me about festivals in Seoul,” instead of simply retrieving data from the web, it utilizes a database connected to the knowledge base, providing answers on information about ongoing or upcoming festivals.
Furthermore, CUE: improves the search experience by providing suggested queries at the end of the autocomplete feature and by allowing users to select to view responses from CUE:. NAVER has refined its interface, seamlessly integrating CUE: into its search platform to facilitate a smooth AI experience for users during their search activities.
Beta users of CUE: can directly access the service within the integrated search without visiting a separate page. Currently available on the PC version, CUE: is slated for expansion to mobile next year.
Kim Kwang-hyun, head of NAVER Search CIC, stated, “CUE:’s integration into search enables users to find their desired results more quickly and effortlessly. As a distinctive platform possessing both content and services, NAVER aims to enhance its competitiveness by incorporating the benefits of generative AI technology.”
