In celebration of the 20th anniversary of NAVER Blog, NAVER opened an event page titled “Records Accumulate into Possibilities,” highlighting significant milestones created with users over the past 20 years.
The event page presents a plethora of data illustrating the blog service’s evolution and expansion over two decades and the users’ most significant contributions. For instance, visitors will find contents such as the “20-Year Blog Metrics,” consisting of data aggregated over 20 years; “Blog Service History,” chronicling the evolution of major features and icons; “Blog Record” for individual users; 20th Anniversary Event; and “Blog People’s 20 Q&As” by blog influencers.
A total of 2.8 billion blog posts and KRW 16 billion in Happybean donations accumulated… Explore the vast history of NAVER Blog over 20 years
The event page features various records generated and accumulated on the blogs over the past 20 years. Since the service’s launch, a total of 33 million blogs have been created, with 2.8 billion blog posts published throughout the period. These posts encompassed approximately 13.4 billion images and 170 million locations, underscoring the users’ comprehensive documentation of diverse information beyond mere text. Cumulative donations made through Happybean, acquired by users each time they publish a blog post, also reached KRW 16 billion.
The data also shows that the blog serves not only as a repository for diverse records but also as a dynamic hub for user interactions. It was found that every year, 70 million users connected with new blog neighbors, posted 500 million comments, and exchanged 1.4 billion likes.
From its launch in 2003 to the “Weekly Diary Challenge” popular among millennials and Gen Z in 2022, the 20-year-old NAVER Blog continues to evolve
The 20th-anniversary page chronicles significant updates on the NAVER Blog from its launch to the present in chronological order, allowing users to review its two-decade growth at a glance. First introduced in 2003, NAVER Blog launched a mobile application in 2009 for use on mobile devices, and in 2020, the platform rolled out the “Blog Market” feature, allowing bloggers to sell their unique products. The event page further showcases the “Weekly Diary Challenge” from 2022, which resonated with the 10–20 age group and set the trend for blogs among the younger generation.
Users can also explore interesting records by other blog users. The page features the very first “power blogger” who has maintained consistent activity from the beginning until now, and the blogger with the highest number of blog neighbors or a post with the most location details included.
In addition to the blog service’s history, major changes to enhance user experience are introduced. NAVER Blog plans to refine the “Blog Moments” feature in line with the short-form trend, improve the location feature for the newly launched “Authentic Reviews,” upgrade personalized feed curation on the mobile blog app, and offer customizable blog home/mobile widgets for users.
NAVER Blog gives away 20th-anniversary limited-edition goods… Every user who leaves a “record” to receive stickers
NAVER is also hosting an event to give away special 20th-anniversary limited-edition goods. The event, which runs until November 5, is centered around the theme “record,” similar to the 20th anniversary campaign. Users can automatically participate by creating a post with the personal definition of “record” on their blog in line with the event guidelines or by writing a daily record based on provided keywords. Every participant will receive a blog sticker, while select participants will get a chance to win 20th-anniversary goods or NAVER Pay points through a lucky draw.
Kim Bo-yeon, team leader at NAVER Blog, said, “While NAVER Blog boasts a long history over the past 20 years, the service has recently experienced renewed growth with last year’s Weekly Diary Challenge and last month’s Check-In Challenge that resonated with the younger generation, who values ‘records.’ Based on the trust and stability we have built with our users over a long time, we plan to stay committed to enhancing user experience with continued efforts.”
